The Office of Information Technology has created an IT security education program for all WMU students. A second course has been created for all students employed by WMU who use computers and/or access electronic or paper University data to take in addition to the course for all WMU students. The courses are contained in Elearning and students may access them from the student tab in GoWMU, in the My Self Service channel as IT Security Education for Students or from My Courses, after logging in to Elearning.
All students
This course contains three modules and a short quiz. The modules cover the following topics:
- Introduction
- Phishing & Email Security
- Bronco NetID & Password Security
- Personal Device Security
Student employees
This course is found by scrolling to the bottom of the above course. It contains one module and a short quiz and covers the following topics:
- Data Security
- Cloud Computing
- Social Security Numbers
- FERPA
- HIPAA/PHI
Verification of training completion
A day after students have successfully completed the quizzes, students will be sent a confirming email. This confirmation may then be passed along to a student employee's supervisor to verify that training has been completed.
