The Instructor role has complete access to add, remove, and modify content and assignments within a class. It also has access to the grade book and all related functions.
The Teaching Assistant role has access to the grade book and all related functions but does not have the ability to add or remove content or assignments.
The Librarian role has the ability to add or remove the content in a course but does not have any access to the grade book.
The Student role has access to learner-based content and activities in a course. The Student role has no course setup or modification ability.
The Student Discussion role was a role that allowed students to edit their discussion posts. Since the Student role now has the ability to edit discussion posts, this role will be removed before the start of the Spring 2021 semester.
The Learning Assistant is a specialized student role designed to be used for the Gateways to Success program. It is identical to the Student role, except it lacks access to grades and does not show up in the grade book.
The noaccess role is a Student role with all permissions to view content, grades, and activities removed. The only portion of a course that this role can see is the course home page. This role is used for Incompletes and other situations where a small number of students need continuing access to a course. Students not receiving an Incomplete can be set to noaccess, so they do not have access to those items.
